How to Get Started with Oil Pulling

Have you thought about oil pulling, but don’t know where to start? Check out our simple to follow instructions and get started with oil pulling today.

What is Oil Pulling?

Oil pulling is a traditional way to clean your teeth and gums. The oil acts like a cleanser, and has many detoxifying benefits. Started in India thousands of years ago, this simple routine is something that many folks swear by.

Trying it for the first time makes most people nervous, especially because swishing anything in your mouth for 15-20 minutes is a big task! Add to the fact that it doesn’t taste the best, it changes consistencies and your gag reflex just might kick in, and some people are saying “no way”!

However, the benefits are undeniable, and worth 15 minutes a day.

How Do I Do It?

The best time to try oil pulling is first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. To get started, place a tablespoon of cold pressed organic oil (coconut, sunflower, olive, sesame) into your mouth and swish it around for about 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes is up, spit the oil out.

During this time, the oil will mix with your saliva and turn it into a white liquid. The lipids in the oil will pull out the toxins from your teeth, gums and tongue. As the oil is being absorbed, the oil will thicken up. Once it’s reached this point, it’s time to spit it out.

Don’t swallow the oil – this can cause an upset stomach, diarrhea, etc.

Benefits of Oil Pulling

There are several benefits of oil pulling, and many studies have been done to show them. However, personal experience is always the most interesting to me. You can do a Google search to find benefits that would be relevant to your needs and experiences.

Obviously, everyone will have a different experience, but I find this simple process to have amazing health benefits.
